Two-county, high-speed pursuit ends in crash
A Voltaire woman faces multiple charges following a high-speed vehicle pursuit in McHenry and Ward counties that culminated with a crash into another vehicle on Thursday evening.
According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, around 7:30 p.m., the McHenry County Sheriff’s Department responded to a domestic incident east of Voltaire. The responding deputy located Tia Gomez, 26, driving a 2006 Toyota Corolla, traveling west along U.S. Highway 52 near Voltaire and attempted a traffic stop. Gomez fled west on the highway at a high rate of speed.
N.D. Highway Patrol troopers and Ward County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to the area. Tire disabling spike strips were used and successfully deflated two of the vehicle’s tires.
Gomez continued to flee into Minot, where she rear-ended a 2010 Ford Escape driven by Andres Carranza, 32, Minot, at Valley Street and 13th Street Southeast.
Gomez was transferred by ambulance for non-life-threatening injuries. Carranza was not injured. The area of the crash was closed for about one and a half hours while the scene was cleared.
The crash remains under investigation by the N.D. Highway Patrol.
