Perma-Chain offers permanent jewelry

Brooke Jensen of Minot has started a new business in permanent jewelry.
Formerly known as Mrs. Macrame from her previous business in custom wall hangings found on display at The Foundry, Jensen said she no longer makes the time-consuming macrame wall hangings but is focused on her new business, Perma-Chain.
She describes her current business as being mostly centered at events such as The Big One craft show or events at The Foundry and Market on Fourth. Jensen said she also is finding success with pop-up locations and home host parties.
Perma-Chain jewelry is fitted to size and welded together at location and onto the recipient. Jensen explained her guests start by picking a chain style.
“The box chain or paper clip chain are really popular right now,” she said. The choices come in either 14-karat gold, gold-filled or sterling silver. There are many charms and pendants to choose from to add on to a chain. After Jensen fits the anklet, necklace or bracelet to the desired length, she solders it in place using a jump loop, connecting the two ends of the chain.
The dainty chains are in fashion but break easily, Jensen said, so she sells only the heavier weights and styles, ranging in price from $70 to $100. With each piece purchased, an additional $10 is subtracted from the price.
“A lot of times guests want to wear them stacked, and that is two or three at a time,” Jensen said.
“I feel like a benefit of having permanent Jewelry, especially bracelets and necklaces, is women have such a hard time clasping them themselves, but with these there’s no clasps, so it is much easier to wear, not getting snagged on clothing or hair,” she said.
Jensen offers a re-welding for breaks in chains or if they need to be removed for a surgery, but generally has not had requests for repairs.
“People will start out with one and decide it is very light and comfortable without tangling from the clasp, and move into more. They are addicting,” said Jensen.
