Minot United speechifiers compete at regionals
The Minot United Speech team attended the regional speech meet on Saturday, April 11, in Mandan where several students placed.
Anthony Page and Mackensie Harms placed eighth in humorous duo; Anthony Page placed sixth in serious prose; Youness Elbouab placed eighth in radio; Bryleigh McBride placed sixth in speech to inform; Joy Jiang placed fifth in persuade and fourth in speech to inform; Stella Prebble placed eighth in persuade; Alivia Dynes placed sixth in storytelling; Winter Getzlaff placed eighth in poetry and seventh in impromptu; Leah Dokken placed first in both humorous interpretation and speech to entertain; Abigail Withers placed second in serious prose and first in serious duo; Abigail Speer placed third in humorous; Easton Platz placed fourth in poetry; Xylia Michels placed fourth in serious prose; Isabella Peatross placed sixth in extemporaneous programmed reading and first in serious duo.
Additionally, Xylia Michels, Isabella Peatross, Easton Platz, Abigail Speer, Ella Withers, Leah Dokken and Joy Jiang all earned all-state status.
Six Minot United speechifiers (Michels, Peatross, Speer, Withers, Hoffer and Fatimazahra Elbouab), are vying to attend nationals in June at the district competition starting on April 20.
The team is planning a showcase on May 2 from 3-5 p.m. at Minot North High School as a way to raise funds for nationals, with some refreshments and a free will offering.
