Four die in motorcycle crashes during Memorial Day weekend

WILLISTON — A Williston man died from injuries received when his motorcycle struck a pickup north of Williston on Monday. He was the fourth North Dakota person to die in crashes in the state during the Memorial Day weekend.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol identified the motorcycle driver as Brandon Burkemo, 24.

According to the patrol, Burkemo, driving a 2003 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, was going east on Williams County Road 6 toward the Love’s Travel Center intersection, north of Williston. A 2018 Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by Earl Ray, 63, Stanley, was facing north and turned left onto County Road 6 from the travel center. The motorcycle struck the rear of the pickup. The crash occurred at 10:35 a.m.

Burkemo was transported to CHI-St. Alexius Hospital, Williston, where he was pronounced deceased. Ray was not injured. The crash remains under investigation by the N.D. Highway Patrol.

Three other motorcyclists died in the state on Saturday.

Brandon Cermak, 35, Fargo, died when he struck a crop sprayer on Highway 31 near Raleigh in Grant County as the sprayer was turning left.

Corey Volesky, 45, and Amber Krause Volesky, 40, both of Wyndmere, died when a pickup rear-ended their motorcycle as they were slowing down to turn off the highway onto a county road in Richland County.
