Casey Vollmer, Minot, charged with endangerment by fire
Casey Scott Vollmer, 32, Minot, has been charged with Class B felony endangerment by fire for allegedly starting a fire in a southwest Minot apartment on Sunday.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, the fire department was called by someone who was cleaning out a neighboring room who reported smelling hot wires. There was no fire in that room but there was smoke filling Room 8. The door had been barricaded closed. Firefighters broke down the door and entered the room to clear out the smoke. They found Vollmer asleep on the floor in a back bedroom and woke him up. Vollmer told them he had been sleeping and did not know how the fire had started. He then said he put a box of debris in the bathtub and had been trying to “burn away some old memories.” There was smoke damage in the bathroom, including burned debris in the bathtub. Authorities also found some blue Advil PM pills on the floor where Vollmer had been. The owner of the apartment building told authorities that he had been going to evict Vollmer on Monday.
Vollmer was scheduled to make an initial appearance on the charge on Monday in district court in Minot.
