Zachary Beam, Minot, sentenced to 2 years for aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon

Zachary Daniel Beam, 24, Minot, was sentenced on Friday to five years in prison, with a requirement that he first serve two years, followed by two years of supervised probation for striking a woman multiple times with a belt and striking her with a glass wine bottle on Jan. 25.

Beam entered an Alford plea to the Class C felony aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon charge, meaning he maintains his innocence but recognizes he could have been found guilty if the case went to trial.

Judge Richard Hagar also ordered Beam to complete an anger management class, to obtain a chemical dependency evaluation, to have no contact with the victim, to comply with the recommendations made after a psychiatric evaluation, and pay $525 in court costs and restitution yet to be determined.

Beam received credit for 269 days already served in the Ward County Jail.

He also entered Alford pleas to a Class A misdemeanor charge of disobedience of a judicial order and a Class A misdemeanor charge of violation of a domestic violence protection order and received concurrent sentences of credit for 269 days served.

The state agreed to dismiss a Class C felony terrorizing charge and a Class C felony fleeing from a peace officer charge against Beam under the terms of a plea deal.
