Trinity Health announces it will provide several opportunities for people to receive a flu shot this season. All shots will be administered by appointment only.

Patients may schedule appointments for flu vaccine by calling Trinity Health’s vaccination line at 701-857-2515. Vaccine appointments are available Monday thru Friday with special Saturday clinics available as well. The first Saturday Flu Vaccine Clinic is set for Sept. 25. This clinic is open to adults 18 years of age and older. Masks are required in all Trinity Health facilities.

In addition, patients may contact their primary care provider for a vaccination appointment, and flu vaccines are available at Trinity’s rural health clinics.

Patients under 18 years of age should see their pediatrician or primary care provider to receive the vaccine, or attend one of three Saturday pediatric flu shot clinics. The pediatric clinics will be held October 9 and 30, and November 13 at Health Center – Medical Arts, 3rd Floor, 400 Burdick Expy E. The number to call for appointments is 701-857-5413.

Infectious disease specialist Casmiar Nwaigwe, MD, says this year’s flu vaccines are designed to protect against four different flu viruses. As in the past, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is recommending that all persons six months and older be vaccinated for influenza during this fall season. “Flu is a serious disease that can lead to hospitalization and even death,” Nwaigwe said. “Every flu season is different, and the health impacts can vary widely from season to season. Your best defense is vaccination, which provides important protection from flu and its potential complications.”

He adds that with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the importance of getting a flu shot is more important than ever. “The concern is that seasonal influenza, combined with COVID-19, could lead to more serious health problems. We also want to reduce the burden on hospitals and conserve resources needed to care for people with COVID-19 and other illnesses,” Nwaigwe said.
