Katrina Huston, Ryder, sentenced to 130 days time served, 10 years probation, for sexual assault of teenage girl
Katrina Louise Huston, 34, Ryder, was sentenced on Friday to 20 years in prison, with all suspended but the 130 days she has already served in jail, and 10 years of supervised probation for Class A felony gross sexual imposition in district court in Ward County. The victim in the case was a teenager under age 15.
According to court documents and statements at past court hearings, Huston touched the girl over her clothing while the girl was asleep, then pulled down the sleeping girl’s shirt to expose the tops of her breasts, took video of herself doing this and then sent the illegal video to a man on the internet.
Huston had been added to a group discussion in October 2019 with Derrick Stephen Walker, 45, and Katie Lynn Heidinger, 32. The group exchanged images and videos containing child pornography. Walker had previously asked Huston for nude pictures of two teenage girls. Huston refused at first but Walker kept pressuring her and she gave in and sent him the video. Huston stopped communicating with him when he asked her to arrange for him to have sex with teenage girls. She told authorities that she had seen Walker and Heidinger exchange child pornography in the Snapchat group but Huston denied that she participated in that group.
The state had worked out a plea deal that called for Huston to serve no additional jail time but in January Judge Gary Lee ordered that Huston be sent back to jail until the sentencing hearing on Friday. Huston had entered a guilty plea on an open plea basis, meaning that the sentence was at Lee’s discretion.
Lee also ordered Huston pay $1,600 in court costs, to register as a sex offender and to cooperate in the cases against Heidinger and Walker.
Both Walker and Heidinger were indicted on child sexual exploitation charges in U.S. District Court. Heidinger accepted a plea deal on six charges of sexual exploitation of a child that calls for her to serve 30 years in prison, followed by 10 years of supervised probation. She had originally been charged in district court in McHenry County with sexually abusing three small children, taking video recordings and still images of the abuse on her cell phone, and sending the images to Walker via SnapChat between August 2019 and January 2020. Heidinger is in custody at the Ward County Jail. She is scheduled to be sentenced on June 8 in U.S. District Court. Walker is now scheduled to go to trial on Sept. 20 in U.S. District Court.
