Maurice Gordon

Maurice Antonio Gordon, 39, Minot, is accused of assaulting a woman during a domestic violence altercation on Friday and of interfering when she made a 911 call.

Gordon is charged in district court in Minot with interference with a telephone during an emergency call, a Class C felony, and Class B misdemeanor domestic violence resulting in bodily injury.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, the woman told police she had stopped at the residence to dry some clothes that belonged to her friend. Gordon got angry and started calling her names and at one point he locked her in a closet. He slapped her hard on her face, head, arms, legs, back and buttocks and at one point put his hand on her jaw and on her throat, according to the woman. She said he had also struck her with a broom, a vacuum, and part of a seat. When she tried to call police, Gordon took the phone away from her and they struggled over it. The woman told police Gordon has been violent towards her in the past. He allegedly told her that “they were both going to die” that night. The woman was covered in multiple bruises and scratches.

Gordon denied striking the woman and told police he was trying to stop her from trashing the house.
