Cover crop, grazing tour scheduled for Menoken Farm

BISMARCK – Registration is open for “Crops, Covers & Cows,” a cover crop and grazing tour that will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on July 22. The event will be held at Menoken Farm, Burleigh County Soil Conservation District’s conservation demonstration site east of Bismarck.

The speakers’ presentations will be videotaped and posted on the Menoken Farm Web site following the event.

The featured speaker is Chris Teachout, a fifth-generation farmer from Shenandoah, Iowa. He and his wife, Janenne, raise corn, soybeans, small grains and have been using conservation practices since the mid-80s. Teachout integrates his passion for soil health into his operation to keep the land productive and to improve the soil for future generations.

North Dakota producers will also share their experiences with crops, covers and cows.

This cover crop and grazing tour is sponsored by Burleigh County SCD; Morton County SCD, Natural Resources Conservation Service; and the North Dakota Grazing Lands Coalition.

Although there is no cost to attend, please register by July 15 for the 7 p.m. dinner. Contact the Burleigh County SCD office at 250-4518, ext. 3, or e-mail constance.bryant@usda.gov.
