A special honor for a veteran

Elaine Gunderson/MDN Ed Zilli, a World War II veteran from Minot, was honored on Wednesday with a handmade quilt presented to him by the Quilts of Valor Foundation volunteers in North Dakota. The presentation was done at the Parker Senior Center in Minot to thank Zilli for his “sacrifice and service to protect and defend the United States of America.” Zilli, who was born in New Jersey and spent much of his life in New York, served in the U.S. Army for almost 10 years. His service time included landing at Normandy on D-Day on June 6, 1944, and also in the Battle of the Bulge. A retired New York police captain, he has lived in Minot for about a decade.
