Joshua Kumferman, Minot, charged with felony domestic violence, interference with 911 call

Joshua James Kumferman, 31, Minot, is accused of strangling his girlfriend and interfering when she tried to make an emergency phone call on May 22 at a Minot residence. It was the second time this month he has been accused of assaulting the woman.

Kumferman is charged in district court in Minot with Class C felony domestic violence causing serious bodily injury, Class C felony interference with an emergency call, and Class A misdemeanor violation of a protection order.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, the woman had red marks all around her neck and red dots on the right side of her neck. The woman told police that Kumferman grabbed her and pinned her up against the wall so that her feet were not touching the ground. At one point the woman lost consciousness. She said Kumferman held her that way for about five minutes. She told police that at one point while she was being strangled she grabbed her cell phone from her back pocket and was trying to dial 911, but Kumferman took the phone away from her and threw it in the back yard. She kicked Kumferman in the groin and he let her go and she was able to go to a neighbor’s house.

There was a no contact order in effect forbidding Kumferman from having contact with the woman.

On May 6, Kumferman allegedly argued with his girlfriend while holding a knife in his hand and cut her across the palm when she took the knife away from him. He is charged with Class C felony aggravated assault committed with a dangerous weapon and Class C felony terrorizing in district court in Minot in connection with that incident.
