Arrest warrant issued for Sheridan Simms, accused of hindering murder investigation; police still seeking Donald Cooper Jr.

Arrest warrants have been issued for Sheridan Charlene Simms, 30, on charges that she hindered an investigation into the Jan. 12 murder in Minot of Dominick Stephens.

Simms is also wanted on a Class C felony charge of child neglect in addition to the Class C felony hindering law enforcement charge.

Minot police are seeking information leading to her location and her arrest.

According to a press release, police do not believe she is currently in Minot but they cannot confirm that information.

Simms is described as a 30-year-old black woman, 5 feet 9 inches tall and 220 pounds with brown eyes and black hair.

Police did not release further information. A judge has issued a gag order in the homicide case.

Police are also still seeking information regarding the location of Donald Lee Cooper Jr., 27, who has been charged in connection with the murder.

A co-defendant, Michael Lamart Dennis II, 24, turned himself in to police last month and has been charged with Class AA felony accomplice to murder, Class A felony attempted murder, Class C felony reckless endangerment, and Class C felony terrorizing.

A third co-defendant, Marcus Jermaine Lee, 22, pleaded guilty last month to Class A felony accomplice to murder. Under the terms of a recommended plea deal, Lee would be sentenced to 20 years, with a requirement that he serve 15, and three years of supervised probation. Cooper and Dennis allegedly threatened and intimidated Lee into helping them commit the crime and Lee was under “extreme emotional disturbance” at the time.

According to a police news release immediately after the shooting, police were investigating gunshots at 6:07 a.m. Jan. 12 in the area of 13th Street and 11th Avenue NW in Minot. A few minutes later, Minot Central Dispatch received a report of a vehicle involved in a crash near the Minot State University Dome. It was determined the driver of the vehicle, Stephens, had been shot. Stephens was taken to Trinity Hospital and was pronounced dead a short time later.
