Inflatable fun

Ciara Parizek/MDN Kelly Ostdahl, left, and Carlie Kuhenn, right, duel at Fight the Frost on Friday afternoon.

Fight the Frost began Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. when school was let out for the weekend. Games Galore Party Rental set up several inflatable games, obstacle courses and bounce houses in the FFA and 4H halls at the North Dakota State Fair Center.

Kiddie Land was set up in the 4H hall and kids 5 years and under jumped in bounce houses. One boy was red faced and exhausted when he was finished playing in the blow-up pirate ship. A girl crawled into a bounce house that was shaped like a tiger laying on its back to jump and have fun.

An inflatable duel arena was set up next to the 4H door and sat empty, until Kelly Ostdahl and Carlie Kuhenn geared up with boxing head gear to battle it out. They both stood on a circular platform that rocked when they moved, and the goal was to use the padded pugil sticks to knock the other person off in a sort of “joust.”

“They’re heavier than they look,” Ostdahl commented after Kuhenn defeated her.

A lot of families with children in varying age were having a good time just 40 minutes after it opened. A couple of young boys were running around in their socks to get back to the beginning of the large obstacle course that filled the middle of the FFA hall. The concessions were also open so the kids could have an energy boost to get back out and play.
