K-9 Mace visits Trinity Health

Submitted Photo Master Officer Matthew Pappenfus introduces K-9 Officer Mace to a staff member during a visit to Trinity Health.

Doctors, nurses, and health professionals of all stripes got a dose of dog therapy Tuesday as Minot Police Department K-9 Officer Mace stopped by Trinity Health for a two-hour meet-and-greet on the hospital skyway.

Trinity Health partnered with the Minot PD to acquire the K-9 Unit in appreciation for the service Minot’s police officers perform each day for community. Mace’s handler, Master Officer Matthew Pappenfus, said the visit was a way to say thanks and give back to Trinity Health.

The 3-year-old shepherd from Hungary has a varied mission, which involves drug detection, apprehension, and handler protection. According to Pappenfus, when Mace’s vest comes off he’s like any other dog. That was clearly the case for this visit, as Mace accepted countless head pats and sat for numerous selfies.
