Bryton Coker, Sandpoint, Idaho, sentenced for actual physical control with a minor

Bryton Lincoln Coker, 21, Sandpoint, Idaho, was ordered to obtain a chemical dependency evaluation, attend a victim impact panel and pay $825 in fines and fees on Monday for being drunk and high and in actual physical control of a motor vehicle on Sept. 4 with her 2-year-old in the car.

She pleaded guilty to Class A misdemeanor actual physical control with a minor present on Monday in district court in Minot.

The state dismissed a Class C felony child neglect charge against Coker.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed with the court, a clerk at the Stop and Go on Burdick Expressway in Minot called police after Coker drove off with a gas hose attached to her car. The officer who responded noted that Coker was shaking and picking at herself. Coker told the officer she had taken the gas hose off and put it in the filler neck in her vehicle. She tried to pay for the gas with a bank card that was declined. Coker then forgot to use the bank card and drove off with the hose still in the car and it broke off. The damage to the pump was $125.

Coker failed a field sobriety test. Coker told the officer she had driven from Stanley to Minot to pick up her boyfriend at the hospital in Minot. Coker had driven with her child from Idaho to meet her boyfriend in Stanley earlier that week. Coker told the officer she had used marijuana and was tired because she had only slept for four hours the previous day. The responding officer concluded that Coker was under the influence of marijuana and a stimulant drug.

The 2-year-old was in the back seat of her vehicle when police responded. The child was turned over to Ward County Social Services after the incident.
