Sulaiman Barrie, 26, Minot, is accused of breaking into a parked cars in the parking lot at Dakota Square Mall on Tuesday and possession of stolen property.

Barrie is charged with one Class C felony count of unlawful entry into a motor vehicle, four Class C felony counts of possession of stolen property, one Class C felony count of possession of heroin and one Class A misdemeanor count of possession of Xanax pills in district court in Minot.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, a woman saw Barrie walking around checking vehicle doors and entering one of the vehicles. Police responded and placed Barrie under arrest in the TJ Maxx parking lot. Barrie was searched and was found to be in possession of seven different cell phones and several different debit and fuel cards and a checkbook belonging to a Parshall man.

Barrie’s former employer in New Town is the owner of the fuel cards and told police that security video showed Barrie going through several of the work trucks earlier in the afternoon. The former employer had reported Barrie to the Mountrail County Sheriff’s Office in Stanley. The owner of the checkbook told police that Barrie was not allowed to have the checkbook.

A search of Barrie’s person turned up a ball of tinfoil containing suspected heroin and a plastic bag containing 13 Xanax pills. Barrie also had a blank check belonging to yet another person. That man told police that his car had been broken into sometime prior to Sept. 13 and he was missing a blank check. At least one of the seven cell phones had been stolen from a car that was parked in the Target lot on Tuesday afternoon. One of the woman’s debit cards was also missing.
