Joseph Almond, Minot, charged with terrorizing, theft of firearms

Joseph James Almond, 19, Minot, was charged with pointing a gun at a woman’s head at the Guest Lodge in Minot on Tuesday and with stealing firearms from a residence.

Almond is charged in district court in Minot with Class C felony terrorizing and two Class C felony counts of possession of stolen firearms.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, police received an anonymous call from a woman who said another woman was trespassing at the Guest Lodge. When the caller confronted the other woman in Room 125, she saw a man had pointed a gun at the woman’s head.

When police responded to the call, they were told that the group had moved to Room 153. The responding officer heard what sounded like the slide of a handgun being racked. They knocked on the door and detained the five people who came out of the room.

The alleged female victim was identified and told police that Almond had been upset with the other people when she walked into Room 125 and did not want to sell them a gun he had, but the other people were insisting that he did. The woman got involved in a verbal argument and Almond pulled out the gun and pointed it at her head and chest. He allegedly turned on a green laser attached to the gun and she could see the laser on her chest.

When Almond was patted down, they found a stolen handgun on his person. Almond admitted the gun was stolen. He told police that the alleged female victim had come into the room and threatened that she would have people beat him up and she told him to give her the firearm. Almond was afraid of the woman, who was bigger than he was. He told police that the woman kept getting in his way when he tried to leave the room and he put up the handgun to her chest and turned on the laser pointer.

Almond was arrested and charged with the terrorizing and the firearms charges. According to the probable cause affidavit in that case, Almond stole a shotgun and ammunition and black Smith and Wesson 9 mm handgun from the residence. The theft was also reported on Tuesday.

Faith Jeannotte, 32, Rolla, was arrested at the Guest Lodge on a Class B misdemeanor trespassing charge. She has a lifetime ban from the Guest Lodge. She has been charged in Minot Municipal Court.
