WATFORD CITY – An equipment failure caused the release of 960 barrels of brine at a saltwater disposal well about 10 miles northwest of Watford City on Monday.

Continental Resources Inc. reported the release at the Norka saltwater disposal well on Monday to the North Dakota Oil and Gas Division. The product was contained on-site and at the time of reporting all 960 barrels of brine were recovered.

On Sunday an equipment failure also caused the release of 2,000 barrels of brine at a water injection well about five miles northwest of Maxbass, N.D. Oil and Gas Division reported.

A state inspector has been to both locations and will monitor any additional cleanup.
