Plaza man accused of stabbing man during dispute in Parshall

A 23-year-old Plaza man is accused of stabbing another man twice during an argument at an apartment complex in Parshall on Tuesday.

Marshall Galen Tigges is charged with Class C felony aggravated assault in district court in Stanley. He is being held at the Mountrail County Correctional Center.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed with the court, a witness told police that she and Tigges had been talking in her car when the alleged victim, Joshua Summerhill, came outside and yelled at them. According to the woman, Summerhill said he knew they were talking about him and came back outside with something circular in his hands. Summerhill then approached the car and Tigges got out of the car and told the other man, “You do not really want to do this.” Summerhill and Tigges started fighting near the passenger side of her vehicle.

The female witness told Mountrail County deputies that she ran inside the apartment building to get help and knocked on one door, but there was no answer. She ran back outside to try and break up the fight. She told police she did not know Summerhill had been stabbed. She thought the blood was a result of a fist fight. Summerhill then had gone back inside and Tigges left in his vehicle. The woman left to check on her own vehicle on the other side of town and returned to find officers in the parking lot of the apartment complex.

Deputies took pictures of blood in the parking lot near where Tigges’ vehicle had been parked. There was also blood elsewhere in the lot that the woman told officers came from a dog that had been bleeding earlier.

The woman called Tigges and he agreed to come back to Parshall to speak with police. Drug Task Force Agents and Mountrail County deputies stopped his vehicle on Highway 23 and placed Tigges under arrest. He was examined at a hospital in Stanley and then cleared to be taken to the jail. Summerhill was treated by Parshall ambulance crew members at the scene.
