Bad bunny busted
Ranking at the top of any parent’s Creep-O-Meter is having their child come into contact with a registered sex offender, especially one with an outstanding warrant on a previous charge of indecent exposure. Then there’s the unthinkable for any parent, actually delivering your child to the offender.
Daniel Ewell Sanderson, 24, Minot, was arrested by Minot Police Wednesday morning for a probation violation. The arrest occurred shortly before 10 a.m. when Sanderson was reporting to Command Center at 1309 North Broadway. Sanderson was hired by the temporary employment service to serve as the Easter Bunny at Dakota Square Mall.
When contacted by the Minot Daily News and asked about Sanderson, a spokesman at Command Center replied only, “No comment. Thank you very much.”
A phone call to Dakota Square for comment on the matter resulted in a referral to the mall ownership’s regional marketing office in Chattanooga, Tennessee. A message left there by the Minot Daily News was not returned. The dates and times that Sanderson was working as the Easter Bunny at Dakota Square Mall were not available to the Minot Daily News Friday.
Sanderson entered a guilty plea on a charge of indecent exposure on December 9, 2015 stemming from a charge that originated nearly a year earlier and involved a young child. Conditions of Sanderson’s sentence included that he register as a sex offender and be placed on supervised probation for a period of two years.
The court issued an order to apprehend Sanderson in February of this year for the purpose of revoking his probation. Sanderson was arrested Wednesday on that outstanding warrant and also charged with failure to register as a sex offender, a Class C felony, and for not updating his employment status with Minot police. An additional warrant is pending for Sanderson’s failure to update his place of residence with Minot police.
Sanderson made an initial appearance in district court on Thursday and has a preliminary hearing set for April 28. He is currently being held in the Ward County Jail.
