Authorities: Employee gunned down boss, co-worker

Jeremy Isaac Rodriguez Rios, 18, was charged with gunning down his boss, Christopher Sluder, 50, and a co-worker, Brian James Story, 37, Tuesday morning at Turtle Mountain Pork, a commercial hog farm about 13 miles west of Bottineau.

According to the sworn affidavit of Special Agent Craig Zachmeier of the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation, during a series of interviews, the man admitted to shooting his co-worker and his boss, the manager of the farm.

Zachmeier said that according to staff members at the farm, there was a verbal altercation at the farm Monday afternoon between some of the employees and Sluder and Story, and one of the employees involved in the altercation was identified by other employees as being Jeremy Isaac Rodriguez Rios.

The Bottineau Sheriff’s office believes the altercation about the performance of the employees at the farm was the cause of the shooting on Tuesday morning that led to the death of Sluder and Story.

“I, (S/A Zachmeier) believe there is probable cause to charge Jeremy Isaac Rodriguez Rios with: Murder (2 counts) related to the deaths of Brian James Story and Christopher Ruck Sluder,” said the special agent in the affidavit submitted to Northeast District Court.

The Bureau of Criminal Investigation, U.S. Border Patrol, Renville County Sheriff’s office, McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms and N.D. Game and Fish has assisted the Bottineau County Sheriff’s office in the investigation.

The Bottineau County Dispatch Center received a 911 call from the farm, located at 9857 1st Ave. NW, Souris, around 8:17 a.m. Tuesday and Bottineau County Sheriff Steve Watson went to the farm and found the two bodies.

Area schools, including those in Bottineau and Newburg, went into lockdown Tuesday until the officers announced the danger was over.
