Law enforcement gives back to local community
WHITE SHIELD – Law enforcement hosted a football event on Wednesday to foster community relations in the White Shield community, encouraging kids to get out of the house and engage in physical activities. The event also aimed to collaborate with the White Shield Fire District, White Shield Ambulance Service and the McLean County Sheriff’s Department.
Heat was pushing 95 degrees but the children were all playing on the splash pad next to the football field before the game started.
White Shield Fire District grilled hotdogs, and chips and frozen treats were provided.
The event began with playing catch, working on football skills like route running, passing drills and distance running, creating stronger positive interactions with community public safety members.
“We commonly show up in some of the worst situations for people, so a moment to do something fun and provide a smile for them instead can make the difference. We will work at making this an annual event as everyone had fun and more ideas for next year. Thanks to everyone who showed up and had fun with us,” Sgt. Jericho Swanson of the McLean County Sheriff’s Department said.
