MSU Summer Theatre presents ‘Calendar Girls’

Submitted Photo From left to right are Abigail Groves, Jenny Castro, Cheryl Nilsen, April Hubbard, Peg Morris and Brittany Armstrong, of the “Calendar Girls” cast.
“Calendar Girls” will be presented by Minot State’s Summer Theatre beginning today, July 10, and continuing through Friday, July 14, at the newly renovated amphitheater.
Doors will open at 8 p.m. and the show starts at 8:30 p.m.
Directed by Robert Hubbard, the play is based on a true story and a movie of the same name, and features a cast of local female talent. “It’s a real hoot with occasional moments of surprise tenderness. I think the audience will laugh a lot, but they will also be moved,” Hubbard said.
“Calendar Girls” tells the story of a group of retired women who decide to raise money in a most unusual way: by posing nude in a calendar. Once it gets out into the public, the women become famous and the celebrity status strains their friendships to the breaking point.
“This story is a really sweet and beautiful portrayal of friendship. There are some serious moments that definitely tug at the heartstrings, but there’s also a lot of playfulness that just feels so authentic. I think audiences will be able to relate to these women and their silly shenanigans within their own friendships,” said actress Brittany Armstrong.
The show is not a musical of Neil Sedaka music nor will actors be nude in the production.
