The Make a Scene Kids Theatre is getting ready to transport you far away to a mystical land of enchantment with its production of Disney’s “Aladdin Jr.” from April 7 to 9 at 7 p.m., at Aleshire Theatre in Minot State University’s Hartnett Hall.

Tickets are $10 at www.steamnd.org/AladdinJr.

“We’re excited to be able to do theater again in the community,” said the director Stephanie Chell.

Belle Black, 14, who plays “Genie,” said she has never acted with the Make a Scene Kids group before but has been in other productions and enjoys putting on a show.

The part of the genie requires her to “be more animated and big,” she said.

Choreography for the musical is by Angela Schnaible and the stage manager is Ali Monley.

Black said she thinks the audience will really enjoy the show, which she said is similar to the Disney movie that kids are probably familiar with.

‘I think they will like to see all the humor for all of the characters,” she said.

Disney’s “Aladdin Jr.” is presented through special arrangement with and all authorized materials are supplied by Music Theatre International, according to the production poster.

Chell said the 22 kids in the cast range in age from third graders to eighth graders. They have been practicing since February.

Make a Scene Kids Theatre group, which offers children year-round experiences in the performing arts, has been in existence since 2015.

Other activities include acting classes and smaller productions, but Chell said this is the big event of the year. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, some previous activities had to be held online, but this event will be in person, which has the kids excited. Chell said the kids paid a fee to participate in the group and fundraisers and show tickets help support the group’s other activities.

The theater group is part of Minot’s Full STEAM Ahead, which also offers other activities for kids such as robotics, the Girls Who Code group, the Minot kickball league, Sertoma T-ball, chess, and more. More information on other activities can be found at www.steamnd.org
