Minot homeowners experiencing damage from a city-owned water or sewer line backup can end up paying for repairs out of pocket if the city is found not to be at fault. After hearing from a resident in April who found herself in that position, the City of Minot investigated an optional insurance rider to provide at least some coverage to help out residents in these incidents. Rural Fessenden church damaged by fire

FESSENDEN – A rural congregation is debating its next steps following a fire that damaged its church building Thursday, According to Fessenden Fire & Rescue, the department was called shortly before 7:45 p.m. to Concordia Lutheran Church near Hamberg. Fire Chief Aaron Opdahl said assistance was provided by Harvey Fire & Rescue and CenDak Cooperative, which assisted with water supply. He said the fire did extensive damage to the front of the church building. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Opdahl initially said. Ward County Sheriff to hold open house

Ward County Sheriff’s Department is holding an open house on Tuesday, July 14, from 6-10 p.m., at 204 Front Street. The public is invited to meet members of the department, tour the Sheriff’s Office, ask questions, learn about careers in law enforcement and learn more about what they do every day. Those attending also may have the chance to participate in a short ride-along, as time and attendance permit.
