Shirley Ann McMaster

Pettit of Worland passed

away in Billings on March

2, 2018. Funeral and

Memorial Service will

take place Thursday,

March 8, 2018, at 1:00

p.m. at Stakston Martin

Funeral Home, 708 Main

St S, Crosby, ND. There

will be a viewing for the

public on Wednesday

evening.

She was born April 18,

1935, in St. Paul, Min-

nesota, to Heartha “Hat-

tie” Ketterling McMaster

and Rolland McMaster,

the second of seven chil-

dren.

They lived in St. Paul,

MN, Seattle, WA, and

Columbus, ND, where

Shirley graduated high

school in 1953 and at-

tended Minot State Col-

lege, majoring in Music

and Literature. She mar-

ried first husband, Warren

Bummer of Crosby, ND, in

November 1956 in Wash-

ington, where their sons

Bennett and Murrey were

born. Their daughters

Lenore and Kate were

born in Crosby.

On December 13, 1968,

Warren died unexpected-

ly. Shirley moved to

Minot State College to

complete her education.

She graduated Cum Laude

of her class in 1970. She

then taught school for a

time in Upham, ND, and

Circle, MT.

She married her

second husband Floyd

Pettit and they returned to

the farm in Crosby, where

their son James was born.

Shirley developed her

hobby of cutting and pol-

ishing Montana Agates

into her business, Shir-

ley’s Rock Shop. She

created beautiful stones

and jewelry and sold it

around North Dakota,

Montana and Idaho and

traveled to Quartzsite, AZ,

to sell and purchase.

Floyd passed away in

2003 and Shirley moved

off the farm to live in

Worland, WY, near her

sister Becky Morley and

her daughter Lennie.

Suffering from progres-

sive lung disease from an

earlier period of smoking

and silicosis from her

rock polishing work, Shir-

ley slipped her earthly

bonds on March 2nd,

2018, at the age of 82.

She will be greatly missed

by family and friends for

her sweet, accepting tem-

perament, her acute intel-

ligence and her creativity.

Shirley excelled at every-

thing she did and we are

all grateful that we were

given the privilege wof

knowing and loving her.

She is survived by two

sons, Murrey Bummer

and James Pettit, both of

Crosby, ND, and two

daughters, Lenore Bum-

mer Poitras of Lander,

WY, and Katherine “Kate”
