Barley of MSU named D-1 Rookie of the Year

On Friday, the 2020-2021 American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) announced Minot State forward Carter Barley as the men’s Division 1 Rookie of the Year Award.

Selected by the head coaches of ACHA Men’s Division 1, Barley is the second Beavers player to win the award in its 19-year history. Former MSU forward Kale Dolinski won the award for his excellence during the 2010-2011 season.

Barley, a 6-foot, 2-inch, 186-pound freshman from St. Andrews, Manitoba, capped off a fantastic season with the Beavers by scoring 16 goals and distributing 18 assists in 29 games. Barley’s 34 total points led Minot State University in scoring this season and was tied for the second most points in Men’s Division 1.

With Barley’s contributions, the Beavers finished the 2020-2021 season with the No. 2 ranking, falling on the last day of the season in the 2021 ACHA Men’s Division 1 National Championship Game. Prior to arriving at Minot State, Barley played youth hockey with the Winnipeg Hawks and Winnipeg Thrashers programs before competing at the junior hockey level with the Selkirk Steelers and Portage Terriers.
