Prep Track & Field: Minot High, Minot North compete at Minot Invite
Minot North’s Cameron Jesz picked up a victory in the high jump and was the final leg of the winning 4×200 relay team, while Minot High’s James Pallotta and Blake Anderson both won two events while competing in the Minot Invite on Friday, April 10, at Duane Carlson Stadium.
The Minot North’s boys team placed second among five teams with 152 points. The Magicians placed fourth with 99 points. Bismarck Legacy won the boys event with 230 points and won nine events. Bismarck St. Mary’s (113) and Williston (78) finished third and fifth, respectively.
Jesz won the Sentinels’ lone individual event, claiming the title in the high jump with a height of 6-feet. He also helped the 4×200 relay team that included Gavin Robey, Jayce Wendt and Desmond Tieku to a victory.
Pallotta won two track events, while Anderson won a pair of field events for the Magicians. Pallotta claimed the 100m dash in 10.74 seconds and the 200m in 22.40. Anderson bested the field in the shot put with a distance of 54-5 and the discus with a throw of 164.9.
In the girls meet, Minot High finished third with 128.5 points and the Sentinels were sixth at 57 points. Bismarck Legacy won the meet with 170.5 points and five event victories. West Fargo Sheyenne was second with 160 points. Bismarck St. Mary’s (103.5) and Williston (66.5) were fourth and fifth, respectively.
Minot North’s McKinnley Kragh delivered the lone victory for the two Minot schools, winning the pole vault with a clearing height of 9 feet, 3 inches. The Majettes had five second-place finishes during the meet. Monica Boakye was runner-up in the 100 hurdles (16.95) and teammate Gracyn Bergan was right behind her in third (17.56). Eve Knutson was second in the 300 hurdles (49.17) and both the 4×100 and 4×800 relay teams took second as well. Boakye, Knutson, Grace Hegstad and Kadyn Braun were a part of the 4×100 team and Sophia Lade, Londyn Lauf, Scout Ulrickson and Kaylee Jackson made up the 4×800.
In the field events for the Majettes, Chinagozi Ugobi took third in the long jump with a distance of 16-4.5 and was second in the triple jump with a jump of 34-1.5. The Minot schools showed well in the triple jump, taking the second, third and fourth spots. Bergan was third (32-11) and Minot North’s Kiarra Diaz was fourth (32-10.5). Brisa Lusson was third in the discus (105-0) for the Sentinels and Hadley Faul was third in the shot put (37-3) for the Magi.
Minot High and Minot North compete next in the Mandan Kiwanis Meet on Thursday, April 16, at 1 p.m.
