The Minot State Beavers baseball team kicked off their three-game series against the Wayne State Wildcats with a split double header on Friday, Apr. 3, ending with a walk off RBI bunt in extra innings to win them the second game 6-5.

The first game of the night began with the Beavers taking a quick lead in the bottom of the first when senior Noah Madas grounded out to short stop, allowing redshirt junior Colton Bagshaw to run home from third.

The Wildcats took charge in the second and thir innings, earning three and two runs in each respectively. The Beavers earned two additional runs in the bottom of the fourth, but the Wildcats ran away with the first game, taking the victory with a final score of 8-3 over the Beavers.

Like the first game, the second game of the double header saw the Beavers take charge once more, earning two runs in the bottom of the first inning with two RBI on a single into center field by redshirt freshman Jacob McLean.

The Wildcats took the lead after two more scoreless innings, earning three runs in the top of the fourth. The Wildcats retained their lead clear through the eighth inning, earning two more runs in the top. The Beavers worked their way back to a tied ball game in bottom of the eighth.

The two teams stayed tied 5-5 at the end of the ninth innings, forcing them into extra innings.

The Beavers kept the Wildcats at bay, ending the top of the tenth with a strike out looking.

Two singles and an intentional walk gave the Beavers loaded bases as freshman Mason Boyken stepped up to the plate. Boyken bunted the ball, giving McLean the chance to sprint home, sliding head first into the plate, barely beating the toss from the Wildcats first baseman.

The Beavers ended the game with the walk off RBI, winning the game 6-5.

The Beavers improved to a record of 12-17 after their split double header. The Beavers will wrap up their three game series against the Wildcats on Saturday, Apr. 4, beginning at noon in Kearney, NE.
