Girls Wrestling: Minot United earns West’s No. 2 seed for State Dual Tournament

The Minot United girls wrestling team won three duals over the weekend to lock down the No. 2 seed out of the West Region in the upcoming State Dual Tournament. Minot United opened the weekend knocking off Bismarck Century, 51-21, and Turtle Mountain, 39-33, on Friday, Feb. 6, at Magic City Campus and then traveled to Dickinson the following day, securing a 45-28 win.

Minot United (7-2 overall, 7-1 WDA) won their final six conference duals after starting the season 1-2.

Minot United won five of the seven matches against Century (3-5, 3-5). Brooklyn Ost (100 pounds), Monica Boakye (112), Khylie Schlotz (118) and Fatmiazahra Elbouab (124) all won their matches via pin. Boakye, Schlotz and Elbouab submitted their opponents in the first round and Ost pinned Emelia Johnson in 2:56.

Maycee Boyce scored a 6-1 decision over Addy Gensrich at 155 for Minot United’s other victory.

Vivian Backer and Callee Leingang delivered wins for the Patriots at 106 and 170, respectively. Minot United won four matches and Century two matches via forfeit .

Results against Turtle Mountain and Dickinson were unavailable.

Bismarck Legacy (8-0, 8-0) finished the regular season undefeated and earned the No. 1 seed. Bismarck High (7-2, 6-2) and Turtle Mountain (10-3, 6-3) also qualified for the state dual tournament as the West’s No. 3 and No. 4 seeds, respectively.

Lisbon, South Border, Grand Forks and Pembina County North will represent the East Region at state. Minot United will dual with Grand Forks in the quarterfinals on Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Fargodome.

Before that, Minot United competes at the West Region Individual Tournament on Friday, Feb. 13, at the Byron Dorgan Wellness Center in Belcourt.
