Women’s Wrestling: Beavers fall in close dual with Jamestown

The Minot State women’s wrestling team led early, but the University of Jamestown rallied by winning the final three matches, knocking off the Beavers, 23-18, on Sunday, Jan. 18, in Jamestown.

The Beavers (5-6) won four matches – two coming by way of forfeits. Minot State took an early 10-0 lead after a pair of forfeits at 103 and 110 pounds. The Jimmies won the following two matches at 124 and 131. Kiera Hagman pinned Emily Light and Nora Houglum won a 6-1 decision against Alyssa Jones.

Puakela Beebe and Haleigh Lematta scored decisions for Minot State over Abby Ewing and Ann Meiman at 138 and 145, respectively. The Beavers entered the final three matches leading 17-10.

Jamestown’s Leah Willard and Emily Novak pinned their opponents at 160 and 180 to take the 20-17 lead. Koiline Govergo sealed the victory for the Jimmies (2-2) with a decision over Aniya Herbin at 207.

The Beavers host a tri-dual with Dickinson State and Bismarck State at the MSU Dome on Sunday, Jan. 25, beginning at 3 p.m.
