Mitch Lunde accepts Activities Director position at Watford City

Mitch Lunde and his family are making the move to Watford City after accepting a job as the Activities Director for McKenzie County Public School District #1.

McKenzie County Public School District #1 announced on Thursday, Jan. 29, that they had hired Lunde as their new Activities Director, the same position he holds at Minot Public Schools in a press release online. Lunde’s hiring will go into effect on July 1 of this year.

Lunder has been the Activities Director for Minot PublicSchools since 2013. As an administrator for Minot Public Schools, Lunde oversees 70 varsity athletic programs and 20 fine arts programs. He also has served as tournament manager for more than 87 NDHSAA events.

During his time in Minot, Lunde was named the 2023-2024 NDIAAA State A Activities Director of the Year and was a 2025 NHSACA Athletic Director National Finalist. Lunde currently serves on the NDHSAA Board of Directors as Vice President.

Lunde’s wife, Jennfer Lunde, will also join the Watford City School District as a High School Guidance Counselor at Watford City High School.

“Jennifer and I are excited to join the Watford City School District and community,” said Lunde in a press release. “Great things are happening in Watford City, and being part of the leadership supporting continued growth in athletics and activities is very attractive. I am especially looking forward to being in the building with students and helping make their activities experience a positive one.”

Before coming to Minot, Lunde also worked for Beulah Public School District as an Activities Director and Elementary Principal.
