Girls Hockey: Minot United routed by Grand Forks

The Minot United girls hockey team surrendered a season-high seven goals and matched their largest margin of defeat in a 7-1 loss at Grand Forks on Thursday, Jan. 15.

Grand Forks’ Paige Meagher recorded two goals and an assist and Chesney Sigdahl and Ella Yahna each had a goal and two assists as the Knightriders scored the first five goals of the contest, including four in the second period.

Yahna opened the scoring 10:31 into the first period on an unassisted goal before Grand Forks broke the game open with a four-goal second period. Ella Bry and Sigdahl provided a goal each and Meagher netted two in the second period before Minot United’s Brynn Hanson scored her team’s lone goal on the only shot by Minot United in the frame.

Grand Forks outshot Minot United 36-3 through two periods and 54-9 for the game.

Ava Walsh and Alaina Marto scored in the third period as the Knightriders posted a season-high in goals, surpassing their previous mark of five, which also came against Minot United as well as Williston and Mandan earlier this season. Grand Forks averages 3.83 goals per game.

Minot United goaltender Faith Seekings played the first two periods in net, stopping 31 of 36 shots. Abbigail Ingerson finished the game, making 16 saves.

Minot United hosts Williston on Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 5 p.m. at Maysa Arena.
