Girls Hockey: Minot United drops West Region contest to Williston

The Minot United girls hockey team’s comeback came up just short after yielding the game’s first three goals in a 4-2 loss at Williston on Tuesday, Dec. 30, at the Agri Sports Complex.

Brynn Hanson scored both goals for Minot United (2-5-1-0), her second bringing her team to within 3-2 with nine minutes remaining in the third period. But the Coyotes (2-5-0-0) iced the game in the final minute when Anyka Wiedrich scored to push their advantage to two.

Minot United held a 40-30 advantage in shots on goal.

Williston took a 2-0 lead after one period on goals from Kailyn Douglas and Aubrey Nass before Nass opened the scoring in the second with a power-play goal at 5:25. Nass finished with a three-point night, tallying an assist on Wiedrich’s goal.

Hanson got Minot United on the board at 9:15 of the second period to cut the deficit to 3-1 going into the third. Hanson has compiled 13 points on six goals and seven assists through eight games this season. Her point total puts her tied for fourth in the state.

Faith Seekings stopped 26 shots for Minot United, while Jovie Mahar earned the win in net for the Coyotes, finishing with 38 saves.

Minot United travels to play Fargo North/South on Friday, Jan. 2, at 7 p.m. at John E. Carlson Coliseum.
