Girls Gymnastics: Minot United defeats Mandan in makeshift dual

The Minot United girls gymnastics team was all set to compete in its second meet in as many days in Mandan, but Mother Nature had other ideas.

Minot United arrived at Starion Sports Complex on Friday, Jan. 16, expecting a fresh batch of competition coming off their second-place finish the day prior. Instead, the only other team that braced the weather was the host: Mandan. So, Friday’s meet instead turned into a dual with the Braves. Wahpeton and Northwest Stars were also slated to compete.

Minot United won three of the four events and Pavyn Peterson took the all-around crown as they defeated Mandan 139.650-133.200. Peterson won both the uneven bars and beam, and Kiera Davis earned the top score on vault with a 9.250.

Minot United took the top four spots on the uneven bars. Peterson (9.200), Adylin Belnap (8.925), Cadence Bagi (8.775) and Davis (8.600) all finished in front of Mandan’s top scorer in the event.

The balance beam also belonged to Minot United, scoring five of the top six scores.

Haylee McGrane and Davis shared the title in the floor exercises with a score of 9.400. Minot United had the next six best scores in the event. McGrane was Mandan’s top gymnast, placing second on the beam and on vault. She finished tied for second with Davis in the all-around with a combined score of 35.250.

Davis and Peterson placed in the top five in all four events.
