Boys Soccer: 4 Magicians, 2 Sentinels named all-WDA
The Minot High and Minot North boys soccer team was well-represented on the all-WDA team, announced Tuesday, Oct. 14.
The Magicians had four players named to the list, second-most among any team. Any Bismarck Legacy had more players represented with five. Among those named to the team were defensemen Drew Bohlender and Nolan Schmidt, midfielder Dylan Oswalt and goalkeeper Ian Stewart.
Bohlender and Schmidt anchored a defense that allowed one goal per game. Schmidt also finished for the team lead in goals with eight. Oswalt led the Magicians in scoring with 16 points on eight goals and eight assists. And Stewart recorded 62 saves on 78 shots faced and had seven shutouts.
Jayden Marshall and McClain Roberts represented the Sentinels as all-WDA selections. Marshall led the team in scoring with 13 points on nine goals and four assists in conference matches.
Other players named to the team were Bismarck High’s Camren Haase and Daniel Matthews, Bismarck Century’s Jaxon Janhnke, Cale McEvers and Teagan Schlichenmayer, Legacy’s James Erickson, James-Matthew Guenther, Landon Herr, Kellen Okerson and Uriel Rivera, Dickinson’s Elijah Ricks, Jamestown’s Miles Anderson, John Belzer and Evan Harty, Mandan-St. Mary’s Caleb Meidinger, and Williston’s Tristan Boots.
Legacy’s Thomas Marcis was named coach of the year.
Prep Volleyball: Majettes rally for 4-set victory over WIlliston
The Minot High volleyball team dropped the opening set before rallying to win the final three sets, keeping Williston winless in conference play with a 23-25, 25-16, 25-15, 25-12 victory on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at Magic City Campus.
The Coyotes (3-23 overall, 0-13 WDA) had upset on the mind after claiming the first set in a hotly contested set, but the Majettes (16-10, 10-3) regrouped and won the final three sets with relative ease to remain in second place in the WDA standings.
Kynsli Gillmore, Everette Deschamp and Brooke Bedell all finished with 16 kills to lead the Minot High offense. Mackenzie Dufner had 47 assists and four aces. Deschamp also finished with four aces and Jayla Hansen added three more.
The Majettes travel to play Bismarck High on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m.
