The Bismarck Demons swept the Minot North Sentinels three sets to zero at the Sentinels’ home game on Tuesday night, Oct. 14.
The Sentinels had strong openings in two out of the three sets, but missed serve recieves gave up precious points and kept the Minot North’s setters from advancing the play. Minot North kept the lead for most of the first set, keeping hitting a five point lead Demons at one point in the set 16-11. The Demons took their first lead of the set at 20-19 and did not let it go. The set ended with a touch on the block by Minot North that sent the ball out of bounds. The Demons took the first set for an early 1-0 lead against the Sentinels with a final set one score of 25-23.
The second set leaned much more heavily in favor of the Demons with Bismarck junior Rosalyn Brunelle earning the first kill of the set with a cross-court shot. The Sentinels took the lead briefly at 4-3, but quickly gave it back up to the Demons, who then kept the lead for the remainder of the set. The set ended on a kill from Bismarck senior middle blocker Jordyn Rood with a final score of 25-21.
Set three started to look like the Sentinels had finally found their groove. Minot North took an early lead at 9-1, the largest lead of the match at that point. As the set wore on, the Sentinels’ issues on defense let the Demons slowly claw their way back until the score was 13 all. From there the Demons were able to stay toe-to-toe with the Sentinels, taking the lead at 21-19. The Demons kept their lead from then on out and ended the third set with a score of 25-21.
