The Minot State Beavers secured their second victory of the season in their first bout against the University of Jamestown Jimmies in 15 years over the weekend.

The Beavers faced off against the Jimmies on Saturday, October 11 for the first ime since 2010. The Beavers made an early punch in the beginning of the first quarter. Redshirt senior Evan Lovett was the one to put the first points on the board for Minot State. Lovett cut around the left side of the offensive line, running past three Jimmies defenders to score his seventh rushing touchdown of the year. The Beavers drove their extra point over through the upright to secure an early 7-0 lead. The Jimmies were quick to respond just a few minutes later when their own senior running back Zach Hammett scored on a three-run rushing touchdown. The 70 yard drive came over twelve plays and ended with a secured extra point to tie the game 7-7. The Beavers would take the lead once more before the end of the first quarter on a 60-yard drive over just seven plays. Senior quarterback Carson Chrisman ended the drive on an eleven yard run through the right side of the offensive line and scored untouched by the Jimmies’ defense. The successful extra point gave the Beavers back the lead 14-7 heading into the second quarter.

The Jimmies were the first to strike back in the second quarter when their redshirt sophomore quarterback Cole Hentges ran the ball five yards into the endzone at the end of the 80 yard drive. The Jimmies were once again able to secure the extra point and tie the game for the second time on Saturday. The Beavers were then able to drive the ball 76 yards over the next eight and half minutes but were unable to secure a touchdown. Instead, sophomore Brandon McCary was able to kick a 22-yard field goal and put the Beavers over the top for their third lead of the ball game 17-14 before the half ended.

The second half of the game started slow, with the only touchdown of the third quarter coming with five minutes 51 seconds remaining. Beaver senior quarterback Chrisman scored his second touchdown of the game, following his offensive line into the endzone to give them a two possession lead. The third quarter ended with a beaver lead of 24-14. Jamestown’s Hammett scored his second touchdown of the game just four seconds into the fourth quarter to cap off the Jimmies’ drive that started at the end of the third. Hammett scored on the three-yard run and the successful extra point put the ball game within a field goal. The rest of the fourth quarter stayed scoreless until the last five minutes. McCary scored his second field goal of the game after a nine and a half minute drive to bring the score to 27-21. The Jimmies took their first lead of the game with just 2 minutes 49 seconds left in the game. Hentges scored his second touchdown of the game for the Jimmies on a one-yard run. The extra point put Jamestown over the edge and gave them a 28-27 lead with just two minutes left on the clock. The Beavers wasted no time getting back down the field, taking less than a minute of clock time to dive the ball 72 yards over six plays. The drive culminated with a seven-yard run from Evan Lovett into the endzone. Lovett was also able to secure the two-point conversion to put a last-minute win for the Jimmies out of reach. The Beavers would not end up needing the extra points, as the Jimmies were unable to secure another touchdown, leaving the score 35-28 for the Beavers’ second victory of the game and first Prairie Warrior Bowl victory in 15 years.

The Beavers improved their season record to 2-5 and their conference record to 2-4. The Beavers will next face the University of Sioux Falls at home on Saturday, October 25.
