Boys Tennis: Magicians post second straight sweep; Sentinels earn first conference win
The Minot High boys tennis team has yet to drop a single match in three conference contests so far this season, adding a 9-0 victory over Bismarck High on Thursday, Sept. 11. The Magicians have won all 27 of his matches, having already posted 9-0 wins over Williston and Minot North earlier this year.
Eight of the nine matches ended in straight sets, with only No. 1 singles needing a third. Nolan Moore rallied to top Reed Romsaas, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. Oliver Thompson at No. 2 singles, Henrik Evanoff at No. 4 singles and Tyson Barden at No. 5 singles all easily won their matches, combining to drop just six games of the 42 played.
The Magicians (10-2 overall, 3-0 West Region) won all three doubles matches in straight sets, with Evanoff and Owen Sundahl winning 6-0, 6-0 over Miles Hanson and Grayson Grinaker.
Minot North (2-7, 1-3) edged out Jamestown 5-4, winning two of the three doubles matches after splitting three singles matches each to post its first conference victory over the season.
Parker Vigestad and Lucas Griffith each won their singles matches and teamed up to win their doubles match. Vigestad defeated Aden Oettle, 6-3, 6-1, and Griffith knocked off Kale backen, 6-1, 6-0, before the duo paired up and posted a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Oettle and Backen..
Reece Blikre and Brayden Callahan won the decisive match at No. 3 doubles, claiming victory over Haden Smith and Josh Sagaser, 7-5, 6-0.
Blikre also won his singles match, a 7-6 (5), 6-3 victory over Smith.
Both Minot High and Minot North are out East competing in the East-West Crossover event this weekend.
