Prep Cross County: Bismarck schools dominate Kiwanis Invite
The Bismarck High boys cross country team and the Bismarck Century girls cross county team ran away with the Kiwanis Invitational in Mandan on Friday, Aug. 29.
The Demons had six of the top 10 finishes on the boys side, leading to a team score of 25 points. Bismarck finished 36 points clear of Century, which placed second with 61 points. Fargo Shanley (80), Bismarck Legacy (127) and Mandan (130) rounded out the top five.
Jacob Windsor posted the fastest time, completing the 5,000-meter race in 15 minutes, 54.24 seconds. Century’s Hudson Bullinger grabbed second in 15:59.36. Bismarck’s Austin Wick, Miles Hanson, Cooper Eberle, Nathaniel Schumacher and Kyler Loraas all placed in the top 10. New Town’s Kade Lambert and Shanley’s Ethan Erickson were the only runners in the top 10 not from a Bismarck area school.
The Magicians placed eighth in the 14-team field with 255 points. Minot North was 10th with 281 points. Xavier Oswald was Minot High’s top finisher, completing the race in 18:42.59 to place 51st. Jon Folk paced the Sentinels, coming in 39th with a time of 18:18.95.
The Patriots amassed 26 points in the girls event to win the invitational by 34 points over Shanley. Century’s Ruby Ihmels won the race in 16:49.76. Ihmels was one of six Century runners to finish in the top 10.
Bismarck High (88), Bismarck Legacy (125) and Minot High (144) rounded out the top five in a field that featured 10 schools. Minot High’s Olivia Anderson and Alyviah Kopp both finished inside the top 30, placing 21st and 26th, respectively. Anderson completed the course in 20:52.70, while Kopp came in at 21:10.08. The Majettes had six runners in the field.
Kenmare-Bowbells and Max-South Prairie also competed in the girls event. Kenmare-Bowbells’ Anna Peterson finished 15th in 20:09.60 for the best time among local athletes. Maycie Talbott paced Max-South Prairie, finishing in 45th with a time of 22:11.42.
The next two events on the cross country schedule are the Watford City Invite on Saturday, Aug. 30, at 11 a.m. and the Carrington Cardinal meet on Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 3 p.m.
