Hot Tots Tuesday night update
The Hot Tots battled back and forth for the lead in Tuesday night’s away game against the Rochester Honkers.
The Tots closed out their series in Rochester, WI with an 11-15 loss in the final inning of the second game.
Minot was able to close out the end of the sixth inning without the Honkers widening their 7-8 lead. The Tots were unable to score again in the top of the seventh and Minot’s Braedon Davis swapped onto the pitcher’s mound for the bottom of the inning. Davis allowed no hits during the half, but the Honker’s Keegan Landis earned the one and only run of the inning by stealing home. The score at the end of the seventh was 7-9 for Rochester.
The Hot Tots earned two early inning walks during the top of the eighth before a single into right field hit by Rowan Felsch allowed Blake Cavill to run home and start Minot’s attempt to retake the lead. With two outs on the board, Henry Allen earned his third hit of the game with a two run RBI single into center field to bring home Ryan Castro and TJ Stottlemyre and give the Hot Tots their third lead of the game. Matt Toomey brought in Minot’s final run of the game off of a double into left field, leaving the score 11-9 at the bottom of the eighth.
The Honkers were unable to score in the bottom of the eighth and the Hot Tots could not widen their lead in the top of the ninth, meaning the Honkers only needed to score two runs to go into extra innings and three runs to win.
The Honkers scored one run and had just one out as Joel Roberts stepped up to the plate. He fouled the first pitch off and saw one ball before rocketing a walk-off grand slam over the left field fence. Roberts’ grand slam was the Honker’s first walk off home run of the season and was greeted at home plate by his team.
The game ended with a score of 11-14 for the Honkers.
