Majettes fall to Spruins, take fourth place at state
GRAND FORKS – After a heart-breaking overtime loss to West Fargo in the 2024-2025 NDHSAA Girls State Hockey Tournament on Friday, February 28, in the semifinal round, Minot High faced the Fargo North/South Spruins in the third place game on Saturday, March 1, in Grand Forks.
The Spruins took the 5-0 win over Minot High sending the Majettes home with the fourth place finish at the state tournament.
Fargo North/South scored early in the first period of play at the 2:24 mark and added a second goal at the 6:40 mark for the 2-0 lead going into the second period of play. The first period was evenly match otherwise with neither team in the penalty box and the Spruins holding the slight 6-4 edge in shots on goal.
The second period was not like the first.
Fargo scored at the 5:14 mark, the 10:16 mark and the 14:46 mark with aggressive play the entire period. The Spruins had two penalties and put 20 shots on goal compared to three for the Majettes. The 5-0 lead after two periods of play would end up being the final score of the game.
Fargo North/South put 14 more shots on goal in the third period of play compared to four for Minot High. The Spruins had two penalties in the third while the Majettes had just one. Faith Seekings faced the 40 shots on goal for the Majettes and had 35 saves on the day.
Fargo North/South lost a 4-3 match in the semifinals to the eventual state champions from Bismarck Legacy/Bismarck High who beat West Fargo 3-0 in the title game. In the fifth place match, Grand Forks Central/Red River upended Mandan 2-0 for fifth place.
