Magicians move to 20-1 on the year, top WDA team
DICKINSON – The Minot High boys hockey team posted a 6-1 road win over the hosting Midgets in a Western Dakota Association (WDA) match with regular season games coming to a close.
The Midgets scored the first goal at the 11:21 mark for the 1-0 lead. The Magicians scored at the 16:16 mark to tie the game at 1-1 when Teegan Strand hit with Cole Richeson on the assist. Dickinson had the only penalty in the first period while Minot High had 21 shots on goal compared to four for the Midgets.
The Magicians posted three goals in the second period. Mackley Morelli found the net in less than a minute of the start of the second period. Aidan Diehl and Eason Panasuk had the assists. Richeson found the net at 2:14 for the second score. Strand and Oliver Thompson had the assists. Strand scored his second goal of the game at the 11:57 mark for the 4-1 lead. Diehl and Thompson had the assists on the last goal of the second.
Minot High had 18 shots on goal compared to three for Dickinson. The Midgets had two penalties while the Magicians had one in the second period of play.
The third period had two more goals for Minot High. Rylan Roteliuk found the net at the 11:54 mark with Panasuk and Morelli on the assists. Panasuk had the last score at the 16:24 mark with Morelli and Roteliuk on the assists for the final score of 6-1 in the contest.
Minot High had two penalties in the third while the Magicians had 16 shots on goal. Dickinson posted six shots on goal in the third. All goals by both teams were scored at even strength. Devon Keller guarded the net for Minot High and had 12 saves on the 13 shots faced.
Minot High will host Williston tomorrow, February 11, in the final game of the regular season. The Magicians are at 14-1-0-0 in WDA play and alone at the top of the WDA standings. Bismarck Century is at second with an 11-2-3-0 WDA mark with Bismarck Legacy in third at 10-5-0-1 in WDA play.
Bottineau-Rugby 3, Mandan 2
The B-R Braves hosted the M Braves in Rugby for the second to last WDA game of the regular season. The win moved Bottineau-Rugby to 8-6-2-0 in WDA play and currently sixth place in the standings.
Mandan dropped to 8-4-2-3 in WDA play and currently holds the fourth slot. A win by Bottineau-Rugby over Bismarck Century in their final WDA match- combined with a Jamestown loss- would put the B-R Braves in fifth place in the WDA standings.
Bottineau-Rugby and Mandan were scoreless in the first and third periods of play while each scored two goals in the second period of play. Brody Nordmark and Bryant Bohl each scored with Casey Freeman, Lucas Getzlaff and Will Demontghy on the assists in the second period.
Getzlaff found the winning shot at the 3:31 mark of overtime with Tukker Fedje and Khaliel Abdurrahman on the assists in the end. Bottineau-Rugby had 27 shots on goal while Mandan had 22 in the game.
The B-R Braves had four penalties compared to the Mandan Braves with five in the game.
Bottineau-Rugby followed the win over Mandan with a non-conference loss to Mayville-Portland on the road. The 7-4 win for Mayville-Portland came with Bottineau-Rugby being outshot 38-36 in the game.
Grady Glanser and Getzlaff each had one goal while Fedje hit for two in the loss. Abdurrahman, Nordmark and Fedje each had assists in the scoring.
