Bottineau-Rugby, Mandan winners in consolation bracket play

After losses in the quarterfinals on Thursday, February 20, at the Maysa Arena- four teams played for the right to continue fighting for potential state qualifying spots in the 2024-2025 Western Regional Boys Hockey Tournament on Friday.
The winners will face the semifinal teams that will not play for the West Regional Championship today.
No. 6 Bottineau-Rugby 6, No. 7 Williston 0
The Braves bounced back from the quarterfinal loss to No. 3 Legacy with a win over the seventh seeds from Williston. The Braves outshot the Coyotes 36-12 in a game that was slow to start on the offensive end of either side of the ice.
With half of the first period of play ticked away, the teams each had one shot on goal. As each time had one penalty in the second half of the first period of play, the shots on goal began to take place with Bottineau-Rugby edging Williston 9-7 in the first period shots on goal.
Grady Glasner found the net for the first score of the game on a power play goal. Brody Nordmark and Tukker Fedje had the assists for the Braves. Gavin Bartsch scored less than 30-seconds later on the even strength shot for the 2-0 Bottineau-Rugby lead. Bryant Bohl had the assist on the score.
The Braves added three more scores in the second period of play as Bottineau-Rugby outshot Williston 13-3 in the second. Payton Getzlaff found the net at the 4:16 mark with Fedje and Khaliel Abdurrahman on the assists. At the 7:13 mark, Getzlaff added another score with Landon Siemens on the assist. Getzlaff hit his third goal of the second period at the 13:13 mark with Kaden Bristol and Siemens on the assists and the 5-0 Braves lead.
Nordmark found the net for the sixth goal of the game at the 5:02 mark of the third period. Fedje and Getzlaff had the assists for Bottineau-Rugby as they shutout the Coyotes for the win. Williston had three penalties in the second and two in the third periods of play. The Braves had one in each of the periods to limit power play scoring opportunities for Williston.
Mason Lynnes worked the net for Bottineau-Rugby and was a perfect 12-12 on saves in the game for the shutout.
The Braves face Jamestown in the consolation bracket today at Maysa Arena in the first game of the day at 11 a.m. with a shot at qualifying for the state tournament.

No. 9 Dickinson 1
The fourth seeds from Mandan recovered from their loss to five seeded Jamestown for a win over the Midgets in the first game of the day on Friday, February 21, at the Maysa Arena.
Mandan scored two goals in the first period of play for the 2-0 lead while Dickinson added a goal to start the second period. The Braves added another goal in the second and two more in the third period for the 5-1 win and the chance to keep playing for a state qualifying spot.
Mandan had 41 shots on goal against the Midgets, who tallied 21 shots on goal by comparison. The Braves had four penalties in the game compared to the Midgets with one.
Mandan will face Bismarck Legacy today at 1:15 p.m. on the Maysa ice.
