Pair of wins for Minot State women’s soccer over weekend
Minot State Women’s Soccer continued their impressive season with a 2-0 victory over Wayne State (NE) on Sunday (Nov. 3) at Herb Parker Stadium. With this win, the Beavers boosted their overall record to 9-3-4, including a 7-3-3 mark in NSIC play.
After a scoreless first half, Minot State broke the deadlock in the 47th minute. Mia Lewis, finding the net for her first goal of the season, made the critical breakthrough with an assist from Maria Pacheco Martinez. This game-winner was a defining moment, as Lewis’ goal officially secured Minot State’s playoff position.
Just two minutes later, Anna Miotto capitalized on the team’s momentum, netting her fifth goal of the season in the 49th minute to extend the Beavers’ lead to 2-0. From there, Minot State’s defense stood strong, preventing any late rallies from Wayne State.
Siriana Gudino made four crucial saves, holding the Wildcats at bay with a solid performance between the posts.Minot State kept the pressure on, tallying nine shots on goal and maintaining an attacking presence throughout the match.
The Beavers remained resilient, only receiving one yellow card during the game, while showing impressive control and tenacity. Anchored by Elsa Duquesne and Morgan Ortrowski, Minot State’s backline played a pivotal role in securing their seventh shutout of the season.
Minot State 2, Sioux Falls 0
The Beavers found the perfect way to celebrate “Senior Night” – score a pair of goals and blank visiting Sioux Falls.
Senior keeper Siriana Gudino notched her 9th shutout this season and 13th of her career, and senior teammate Sofia Galvez netted the game winner in the final minute of the first half as Minot State notched a 2-0 win over the Cougars on Friday night at First Western Bank Field at Herb Parker Stadium.
With the win, Minot State improved its record to 8-3-4 overall and 6-3-3 in NSIC play and moved into a three-way tie for fifth, sixth, and seventh place in the NSIC standings with two games left in the regular season. The top eight teams advance to the NSIC playoffs.
Minot State can punch its playoff ticket on Sunday with a victory over visiting Wayne State. Kick-off is slated for noon.
Minot State grabbed a 1-0 lead when Galvez scored her first goal of the season in the 44th minute, assisted by Brooklyn Casey.
The Beavers iced the win with a goal from Rivera — her second goal of the season — in the 88th minute off an assist from Anna Miotto.
Siriana Gudino collected seven saves for the Beavers out of nine total Cougars shots. Minot State registered four shots on goal.
