Beavers women’s basketball win last game of opening weekend
BILLINGS, Mont. – The CCA Tip-Off was held at the Montana State, Billings court and Minot State University won their first game of the season at the opening event.
Minot State 72, Texas A&M International 55
The Minot State women’s basketball team used a second-half surge to give their new head coach Ryan Clark his first win as the Beavers head coach on Sunday.
Rallying from an 8-point deficit in the first half, Minot State dominated the third quarter en route to a 72-55 win over the Texas A&M International Dustdevils at Alterowitz Gymnasium in the finale of the DII CCA Tip-Off Tournament hosted by Montana State Billings.
The Beavers (1-2 overall) had three players score in double figures, Taylor Goss, who had 15 points and two steals, Lara Dobbins, who added 15 points and two steals off of the bench, and Maya Aguilar, who also chipped with 15 points and two steals.
Minot State shared the ball well in Sunday’s game, racking up 15 assists on 26 made field goals. Emma Mogen’s five assists led the Beavers and Sydney Gustavsson also helped out with five assists of her own.
The Minot State defense held Texas A&M International shooters to just 33.3 percent from the field, including 20 percent from three-point range.
Findlay 67, MSU 58
The Minot State women’s basketball team took a 44-43 lead into the fourth quarter, but could not hang on and fell 67-58 to the Findlay Oilers at Alterowitz Gymnasium on Saturday in the D-II CCA Tip-Off Tournament hosted by Montana State Billings.
The Beavers (0-2) had two players score in double figures, led by Maya Aguilar, who had 12 points. Emma Mogen tacked on 11 points and Jaime Skeggs added five points and three steals.
Minot State took advantage of excellent ball movement in Saturday’s game, piling up 17 assists on 21 made field goals. Individually, Sydney Gustavsson led the way for the Beavers with five assists.
The Minot State defense held Findlay shooters to only 40 percent from the field.
Union 86, MSU 64
The Minot State women’s basketball team got a 28-point showing from the bench but fell 86-64 to the 8th-ranked Union Bulldogs at Alterowitz Gymnasium on Friday in the Division II CCA Tip-Off Tournament hosted by Montana State Billings.
Emma Mogen led the Beavers (0-1 overall) with 18 points. Sydney Gustavsson also tacked on nine points and six assists and Jessica Mogen helped out with four points and six rebounds off the bench.
Minot State out-rebounded Union 34-33 in Friday’s game, led by six boards from Lorelei McIver.
Minot State forced 17 Union turnovers. The Beavers turned those takeaways into nine points on the other end of the floor. Taylor Goss led the way individually with three steals.
