MSU hosts Cross Country Championships

Ryan Hartman of Augustana was the individual champion for the second year in a row as he traversed the 8K course in 23:49.40. Teammates Erik Gundersen (24:06.9) and Brady Hogan (24:11.2) were third and sixth, respectively.

MSU Moorhead’s Chase Hoechst was named NSIC Newcomer of the Year after his seventh place finish with a time of 24:11.8. The NSIC Newcomer of the Year is awarded to the highest placing student-athlete competing in their first year of cross country competition in the NSIC.

Augustana’s Tracy Hellman was voted by his peers as the NSIC Men’s Coach of Year for the 14th time in the last 15 championships.

Womens Results

Augustana University won its ninth NSIC Women’s Cross Country Championship as the Vikings scored 54 team points after placing five runners in the top 20. Ella Bakken led the Vikings with a fourth place finish with a time of 20.43.4.

The University of Mary’s Alyssa Becker covered the 6,000-meter course in a time of 19:51.20 to win the individual NSIC Cross Country Championship. Becker was also voted by the league coaches as the NSIC Outstanding Senior of the Year for women’s cross country.

Ella Voit of Winona State took home NSIC Newcomer of the Year honors as she was the top finisher competing in their first year of NSIC competition. She was 10th with a time of 21:13.90.

The Viking’s Head Coach Tracy Hellman was voted by his peers as the NSIC Women’s Coach of Year for the eighth time in his career.
