Cam Miller Named Offensive Player of the Week
FARGO – North Dakota State University (NDSU) quarterback Cam Miller was named Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) Offensive Player of the Week by the league office Monday, October 7. It is his second award of the season and third of his career.
Miller, a senior from Solon, Iowa, led six scoring drives in seven possessions before leaving the game late in the third quarter of NDSU’s eventual 41-17 victory over the University of North Dakota (UND). Miller accounted for 207 yards of total offense and three touchdowns, including his 42nd career rushing touchdown, a new MVFC record for quarterbacks.
He completed 13 of 19 passes for 168 yards and two scores, took zero sacks for the second straight game, and extended his streak to 12 games and 235 passing attempts without an interception.
Also, NDSU left tackle Grey Zabel was named MVFC Offensive Lineman of the Week by the league office Monday as well, for the first time in his career.
Zabel, a senior from Pierre, S.D., graded out at 94 percent with zero sacks, hurries or tackles for loss allowed in North Dakota State’s 41-17 home win over North Dakota. Zabel led the NDSU offensive line in physicality points as the Bison averaged 4.6 yards per carry and rushed for 208 yards.
NDSU converted 11 of 16 third downs, controlled the ball for more than 34 minutes, and scored on six of its first seven possessions to pick up its fifth straight win.
NDSU was named Stats Perform FCS National Team of the Week on Monday as well. The announcement followed the victory over UND in the FCS season’s first matchup of top-10 ranked teams.
Sam Jung led the Bison defense with six tackles and defensive end Dylan Hendricks made three stops including one sack, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. NDSU held UND to a season-low 101 yards rushing.
North Dakota State (5-1, 2-0 MVFC) is back on the road this week to face Southern Illinois in the ESPN+ exclusive Missouri Valley Football Conference Game of the Week. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. Saturday, October 12 while the following week is the Dakota Marker Game.
The annual Dakota Marker football game between North Dakota State and South Dakota State will be played at either 6:30 p.m. or 7 p.m. Saturday, Octobrt 19, at the Fargodome with a national television audience on either ESPNU or ESPN2.
The final determination of network and game time will be made by ESPN following this week’s games.
The Bison and Jackrabbits are currently the top two ranked teams in the Football Championship Subdivision. NDSU (5-1) is at Southern Illinois this week and SDSU (4-1) hosts Youngstown State.
This will be the 21st annual Dakota Marker game. The series is tied 10-10 since the schools began Division I play in 2004.
