WDA fútbol action in Minot: Magi beat Demons 4-0

Kari Gibb/MDN Minot High senior Justice Amsbury (11) looks to pass the ball past Bismarck High junior Rabona Butoto (20) to Magi senior Dylan Jackson (30) in action on Saturday, September 7, at Duane Carlson Stadium in WDA action.
Bismarck High made the trip north to tackle the Minot High Magicians in Western Dakota Association (WDA) boys soccer on Saturday, September 7, and were sent home after being cooled off in the hot fall sun by a tenacious host defense and opportunistic offensive attack.
The game was a low scoring affair in the first 40-minutes of play. The only score was after 23 minutes of play when senior Kyle Eklund threaded the ball to sophomore Dylan Oswalt for the only net action of the first half.
The second half started the same as the first half, with both teams working the ball midfield with no scoring until 24 minutes had passed. Senior Samuel Enchanis worked a pass to fellow senior Joshua Marsland for the second goal of the game and the 2-0 lead over the Demons.
With nine minutes to play, Oswalt found senior Dylan Jackson for the third goal of the game- the second of the half for the Magicians. Senior Vincent Palaia was able to score the fourth goal with five minutes left in play- unassisted- for the 4-0 win.
Minot High senior Grayden Wald had little to do with very few close calls at the net due to the hard work of the defenders in front of him. This was the Magicians third shutout of the season.
Bismarck High goalie Drew Haberlock had five saves in the game as both teams kept the ball moving away from the nets for the duration of the game.
Minot High has allowed ten goals in WDA play thus far in the season and scored 13 goals. They have outscored WDA opponents 5-goals to 2-goals in the second half of play. They tend to make adjustments and warm up after the initial 40-minutes of play in the first half.
Jackson leads the team statistically with seven points on six goals and one assist thus far. The team started the season with five wins overall followed by a tie with WDA foe Legacy and losses to Williston and Jamestown.
The Magicians (4-2-1, 6-2-1) will travel to Dickinson (0-6-0, 0-6-0) on Tuesday, September 10, before heading to Bismarck to face Legacy (5-1-2, 5-1-2) on Thursday, September 12. Minot High will end the week with a trip to Williston (4-2-1, 4-2-1)on Saturday, September 14, for a busy week of road soccer.
